Ex-TRSA Board Member Leonard Reino Passes Away

Leonard Reino, 83, recently passed away at home in Sandusky County’s (OH) Madison Township, according to news reports. Reino expanded his family’s dry-cleaning business into a commercial laundry serving hospitals and healthcare facilities across Ohio, from Toledo to Cincinnati, as well as southeast Michigan.

A former TRSA board member, Reino and his wife, Judy, sold Reino Linen Service roughly a year ago and retired. Always active in the community, in 2015, the couple received the key to the village of Gibsonburg, OH, for the family’s service to the community.

“Any little thing you can think of in the community to benefit others, Mr. Reino most likely was involved, whether others knew about it or quietly,” said Marc Glotzbecker, village administrator for Gibsonburg. “He gave not for any type of recognition. He gave because he loved his community. I looked at him as a role model of how you can do business in a community. He gave as much as he received from the community.”

Reino was born on Sept. 26, 1938. His father, Dan, began the business in 1943 as a dry cleaners and shirt laundry, and his mother, Mary, and siblings worked there too. He was in grade school when he started helping at the family business. He was a 1956 graduate of Gibsonburg High School and served in the Navy for six years afterward. In civilian life, he began his full-time career at the business.

By 1990, Reino Linen’s hospital accounts included health systems in Toledo – the biggest customer among them for a time being the former Medical College of Ohio hospital. Health systems from the Cleveland area to the Cincinnati area became customers, as did hospitals in the Detroit area. The company bought new equipment and expanded its facilities multiple times. In 2009, the company opened a plant in the Detroit suburb of Brownstown Township to accommodate the growth.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; sons Christopher and Brian Reino; a daughter, Lisa Olson; a stepson, Jeffrey Sosnowski; brothers Carmine and Danny Lee Reino; sister, Pauline Rumer; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
