TRSA recently reached the $2,000 mark in our effort to collect donations to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes (T1D), which affects nearly 3 million Americans, many of them children.

The TRSA fundraiser aims to continue two traditions: supporting a charitable cause through the Annual Conference and Exhibits and honoring TRSA’s outgoing chairman. In this case, the two are combined, as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is benefiting, with donations in the name of Michael C. Doro, two-year-old grandson of TRSA Chair Jim Doro and his wife, Mary.

Michael has T1D. His condition requires regular insulin injections based on constant and careful monitoring of blood glucose and carbohydrate intake to try to avoid dangerous high or low blood glucose levels. JDRF is implementing a strategic plan including clinical trials to foster a continuous flow of life-changing therapies and ultimately a cure for T1D.

Donations are encouraged online; use this same link to download a form to mail, fax or e-mail contributions to TRSA. These also can also be sent in using a form that’s included in the downloadable Annual Conference brochure.

This brochure also contains a registration form for the conference, set for Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at The Bellagio in Las Vegas. This meeting is recognized as the industry’s premier forum for professional development. Textile services owner/operators and executives bring their colleagues to this conference to recognize and reward top performers and increase management retention. All learn at the event from experts about strategies, tactics and trends critical to bottom-line improvement.

The 2014 event again features thought-provoking keynote speakers discussing economic/technological trends and leadership/management concepts to guide attendees’ corporate growth. Highlighting the agenda will be the real-life Captain (Richard) Phillips, who was played by Tom Hanks in the Oscar-nominated 2013 film, Captain Phillips. The captain will share his story of courage and savvy under intense pressure: how he saved his crew from Somali pirates by becoming a hostage and then saved himself by captivating his captors.
